I enjoyed reading your post! What a great way to get in touch with what the holiday season means to you.
I tend to feel very overwhelmed with buying or creating just the right gift for everyone on my list. Perhaps that's why I, too, am guilty of "over-buying". So, yesterday, I sat down and meditated on each one of my gift recipients in turn and came up with a single word, the first word I thought of when I thought of that person. I'm going to use that as a starting point for a simple gift.
Living in the moment instead of in the past or future which really is only in our minds, is a great way of paring it down and enjoying what is.
I recently attended a Japanese Tea ceremony and the calligraphy scroll outside the teahouse translated to "One moment, One life". I loved that thought.

"I am not able to make the magic." So true. I think our best bet is to slow down enough and open our eyes to see and ears to hear, so we might catch a glimpse of the magic made for us. I hope to do the same this year. My days could certainly use a little magic. :)

It sounds like a great exercise that can be applied to any holiday or 'busy' time of life, even every day for some.

For the past few years, my side of the family has simplified our Christmas in the presents department. Although we don't have any children to buy for (yet), in my family we pick names out of a hat on Thanksgiving and buy presents for that one person (spouses not included) for a total of $75-100. If anyone "breaks the rules" they need to do it quietly separate from Christmas. :)

I feel like I just finished a nice cup pf peppermint tea from reading your blog. I don't just need to apply such thoughts to Christmas, but to every day, every time I brush my son aside because I'm "busy."

I love, love the idea of under-buying presents! I think it actually makes the holiday more memorable and special.
