I do think we may be kindred spirits, as my "DH" is a passionate organic gardener, works at the local food coop, and we try to focus on eating local, in-season produce. :-) Saving the environment is, for me, truly the highest calling of our times.

Wow! What a small world! My husband and I lived in Pasadena for a while (a few blocks from the parade route!) and still own and rent out two houses there. And my cousins grew up in South Pas! Did you know that Pasadena has my favorite tea room? It's called Chado and the owners blend their own teas and have over 300 (400?) loose leaf teas. They are the best teas I have ever had and I have been in many tea rooms throughout the US as well as in England. I buy their loose leaf teas and make several pots a day. I particularly love their second flush Darjeelings, Assams and several of their breakfast blends. You can buy their teas on line through their website if you are interested at: http://www.chadotea.com

Jenny:

I know this comment has nothing to do with tea, but we after reading your story today, I realized we must have grown up fairly near each other during the same time. (I grew up in Burbank and graduated from HS in 1987.) Thanks for the reminder of childhood summers filled with the sharp sting of smog after an afternoon in the pool and "Messiah Sing-alongs" at Christmas! :)
